What is the speed limit in a city with no posted sign?

Where no limit is posted, the maximum is 50 km/h in cities, towns and villages (and 80 km/h elsewhere). Always drive slower than the maximum when weather, traffic or road conditions require it.
Why the other answers are wrong

40 km/h
A 40 limit only applies where a sign posts it. Lower limits are common near schools and around construction, and each one comes from a sign. With no sign at all in a city, town or village, the maximum is 50.

60 km/h
Ontario has no 60 default. Only two unposted maximums exist: 50 inside cities, towns and villages, and 80 everywhere else. Any other number has to be posted.

80 km/h
Right number, wrong place. 80 is the unposted maximum outside cities, towns and villages. Houses, shops and sidewalks around you mean the default is 50.
