How do you safely back up a vehicle in Ontario?
Check the way is clear, then move slowly while looking over your shoulder
Before reversing, check that the way is clear behind you, watching especially for children and cyclists. Move slowly and turn in your seat to look over your shoulder in the direction you are moving, rather than relying only on mirrors.

Reverse quickly using only the rear-view mirror
Two problems in one answer. Backing up calls for extra care and a slow speed, not a quick one. And a mirror on its own can hide a small child or a cyclist close behind you, which is exactly who you are told to look for before you move.

Rely on the backup camera and sound your horn
A camera and a horn do not replace looking. The rule is to check the way is clear first, then turn in your seat and watch over your shoulder as you move.

Keep facing forward and steer by feel
Facing forward means you cannot see where the car is going. Turn sideways in your seat and look over the shoulder on the side you are reversing toward.
